Your new solar window films are performing great by blocking UV rays, providing a bit of privacy, and reducing cooling costs. However, you may have observed that they’ve lost their crystal clear, brand new look. In such a scenario it’s time for cleaning solar panels in California. Before you begin though, ensure that you clean the windows in accordance with your window film installer’s and/or the manufacturer’s directions.
General Guidelines For Safely Cleaning Solar Window Film
The following are general guidelines for keeping your solar window films clean, but we always suggest you refer to the manufacturer’s manual and the specifications are available online via a search for manufacturer/product name online for any solar cleaning service in California.
Is the solar window film comparatively new?
If the solar window film were installed very recently, you can stay relaxed for the first month or so. It can consume around 30 days for the films to settle in and remedy. Cleaning during the first, 30-day window can impact the fit and look of your films. Also, most window films do not necessitate cleaning more than every month or so anyway.
If you observe your window film has fewer bubbles and/or a foggy look, wait for more than 30 days, even up to 90 days, before washing them. If the fog or bubbles do not fade after 90 days, contact your solar window film installer and let them intervene. This could be due to the film being faulty, the windows were not effectively prepared or that the installation was not handled properly.
Never use harsh window cleaning products or equipment
Abrasive cleaners or equipment should be refrained from being used on window films as they can scratch or cut the material. Therefore, desist applying the following in your films:
Scouring pads
Brushes
Grinding paper towels (like dirty or rough paper towels or newspaper)
Baking soda or cleansers that contain baking soda as an ingredient
Employ soft, lint-free towels or cloths
If you wish to wash your windows frequently, we suggest probing in one of the following:
A high-quality window cleaning scrubber: Most Solar Power Cleaning in California is done ideally with a microfibre pad or sponge on one side and a squeegee on the other. These are categorically designed for cleaning windows, including windows with films. Do not buy any window cleaning wand or product that has a rough layer or border as that can scratch the film.
Washable, reusable microfibre cloths. If you do not wish to buy a scrubber, opt for washable microfibre cloths, which can be washed and reused. If you go the microfibre cloth route, do not apply fabric softener in the wash cycle. The oils that weaken your clothes and linens, stay inside the fibres and will leave a smudgy or streaky trail no matter how hard you wash or wipe the windows.
High-end paper towels. If you cannot blow your nose in the paper towel easily, don’t apply it to your windows. Soft cloth or rag is always better than paper towels to err on the safe, scratch-free side.
Squeegee. If you do not have a window washing wand with a combined pad/squeegee combo, you will wish to get a squeegee for the best, streak-free drying results.
Load a Spray Bottle With Mild Window Cleaning Solution
You can apply any, non-abrasive window cleaning solutions. However, be cautious before choosing an ammonia-based cleanser as it can spoil many window film products. Mild liquid dish soap and warm water solution are every bit as useful as store-bought products and quite economical.
Pack a 32 oz spray bottle with warm water and add four to five-drops of mild dish soap or no-tears baby shampoo. Smoothly swirl or shake to blend it. It’s that easy!
It’s Cleaning Time
Now, you’re prepared to clean any windows featuring a solar window film.
Dampen your window sponge or soft, lint-free rag/towel of choice and wring it out.
Apply your spray bottle stuffed with a mild soap cleanser and rigorously spray the window surface.
Spread the soapy solution around with the damp window scrubber or towel, softly pressing as required for more stubborn smudges, finger/pet prints, etc.
Rinse the scrubber/towel with water until it runs clean and applies it to rinse the remaining solution from the window. You may have to repeat the rinse process twice or thrice.
Squeegee the window in smooth, horizontal lines, starting at the top of the window and working your way down. Apply a dry towel to wipe the squeegee clean and dry after each pass.
Employ a dry, lint-free towel or rag to softly wipe away any remaining water lines from the squeegee or in the outline margins of the window.
If you are short of time to wash your own windows, contact your window film installer to get referrals from reputable, solar window film-friendly window washers in your locality.
